mantonman, you are correct in that the air intake temp sensor is involved in the control algorithm for stock grid heaters on the 7.3. After some digging around I found that in the stock form, the air intake heaters on the Superdutys operates when: -Ambient temperature is below 32*. -EOT is below 55*.The code is from the relay unplugged. The ECM is not seeing the relay. Try disconnecting the main power cable for the relay instead. The relay will still work. Just no longer supply power to the grid heater. Take the nut off the wire (8 or 10 MM socket) and remove it, and start the truck. The check engine light will come on.
