Jun 19, 2017 · I noticed that the Engine Idle Temp Management System (EITMS) would activate and go into one-cylinder operation at idle at stops. I thought that odd, but figured Harley set the trigger temperature fairly low to make sure the engine didn’t get too hot at stops. As the weather warmed up, I noted that the EITMS would activate all the time at stops. EITMS = engine idle temperature management system. Shuts off the back cylinder when certain temps are reached in stop and go traffic, parades etc. I'm not sure what all models have this feature. Earlier bikes ('08'S) could have it turned on/off by dealer but the newer touring bikes can be turned on or off by rider.

Before that they used a 3 phase management system. 1st phase at 160c head temp it will reduce the idle until it cools down or reaches 800 rpm.
