I try to stay away from the skills that cause stuff around you to happen like Blight Phoenix because I tend to always kill the last enemy and stuff like that triggers a barrel and kills me with no one near for FFYL. SMGs are really good with these builds. Other than that I'd suggest looking up Derchlands maya builds. I have multiple Maya saves, and alternate frequently between builds. I use a Scorn build most, but go SS for speed runs. SS downsides are pretty badly overblown, most likely because people frequently pair it with a Legendary Binder. The extra Suspension boost makes it more painful when the orb gets weird. My recommendation for your build is when you get to level 50 and get your hands on your legendary class mod you put at least 1 point in 5 skills it builds so you have 6/5 in a least 5 of your 1rst level skills out of the six available. Yes its pretty hard to endgame gaige without anarchy because she has little DPS without it. But its actually pretty well balanced for most set ups. Just don't sham fleet.
